I received this item today and was sorely disappointed and quite frustrated by it for the following reasons:
1). Page 2 of the instruction booklet says to place it in the center of the forehead, push the button, and scan the forehead slowly from the center of the forehead to the temple. But wait a minute! Page 8 of the booklet says to start over the center of one eyebrow, move it to the tail of the eyebrow and then back to the center again. I called the 800 number on the booklet and asked why the discrepancy and which method was correct. They didn t know.
2). There are 3 adults in our household (my elderly mother, my husband and myself). Two of us typically run a sub-normal temp. This thermometer indicated that all of us were sitting at 99.8 degrees!!!! I took our temps using both methods described above .... no change; still 99.8. I then tested with a thermometer I know to be reliable and, sure enough, we were each at our regular normal temps (98.1, 98.2, and 98.6). Again, I asked the CSR at the 800 number why it should be so inaccurate and he assured me they test all of them before selling them. I asked him what they tested it on and in what type of clinical setting (as claimed on the package). He didn t know. To their credit, I ll say that they did offer to send me a replacement, but by that time I had lost all confidence in this product and so I told him I was simply going to return it to amazon for a refund.
THE BAD NEWS -- Thermometers, I learned, are NOT returnable items at amazon (per their website)!!!
THE GOOD NEWS -- I called Amazon.com customer service and was surprised and delighted at how pleasant and efficient they were. I ve been shopping at amazon for 11 years now and this is the first time I ve ever wanted to return anything. As soon as I told the CSR the problems I had encountered, she immediately said she would issue a full refund for the product!!
Thank you amazon!!!
