The first USB mic I bought was Blue Snowball to record my fiddle playing. It sounded OK but the coloration was pretty obvious. Since I am a serious audiophile, I guess I should not expect much from a $99 mic. The I decided to record in stereo, thinking that may sound better, which led to my purchase of MXL USB.007. Although USB.007 costs about the same per channel as the snowball, it s sound quality is much better. The details and tonal accuracy is much improved. Although the results are not quite professional-quality, I can t really hear any obvious shortcoming even with my hi-end playback system. MXL did a great job of balancing the sound. With a simple mic stand and a laptop, I can make a decent home recording with no hassle. Hey I think this mic will allow just about anyone to make decent home recordings. That s pretty amazing.
