The replacement battery s external appearance was very similar to the APC battery that it replaced. Of course, the important parts cannot be seen, only experienced...so time will tell. However, as one reviewer has noted, the plastic tab used to more easily remove the battery from the UPS housing was on the wrong end of the battery. It was attached to the same end as the electrical connector and would be useless if installed as delivered. Before installing the battery into my SmartUPS 1400 (discontinued model), I carefully removed the plastic tab (the adhesive is pretty strong) and moved it to the opposite end. Then I connected the terminals and easily slid the new battery into the UPS housing; the fit was fine. One small gotcha makes you wonder about quality control though; I have never seen this mistake when I have opted for APC replacement batteries.
