This card was a disappointment. After shooting a sports event with my Kingston Elite Pro 32 GB 133x CompactFlash Memory Card CF/32GB-S2, I realized I needed a faster card. My Canon 7D can shoot at a high sustained rate and the card just wasn t keeping up. The prices of UDMA cards will cause your blood pressure to go up, so I looked for a compromise. I found this card.

I performed a side-by-side evaluation of the two cards. Both are 32 GB, but one is supposedly twice as fast as the other. My measurements of the other card are in a review on its product page. To make the measurements, I placed a fresh battery in my 7D and tripod-mounted it. Shots were taken with the remote control. My desire was to eliminate any focus issues that might slow down the camera. I shot RAW exposures for a solid minute. I managed to get 72 shots in 60 seconds. Owners of the 7D know that it can hold 15 exposures in its internal buffer. I threw out 15 shots and two seconds, arriving at a count of 59 shots in 58 seconds. This boiled down to a write speed of 25.1 MB/sec, considerably below the maximum speed claimed by Kingston.

Using the camera itself as a card reader, I then transferred the shots to my computer. This is where it got interesting. Not only was my read rate of 13.6 MB/sec below the claimed speed, it was also substantially below the speed of my 133x card!

I will admit that perhaps the 7D can t take advantage of potential speed offered by the card. Maybe yes, maybe no. The 7D IS a current-generation pro camera. In any case, there is clearly no advantage in spending the extra 50 dollars compared to the 133x.

Similar to the previous reviewer, I have a high speed Nikon D700 camera that supports UDMA CF.
After comparing brands, $price/speed/capacity, Kingston s 32GF 266X CF was a clear winner (on the specs only).

Promptly received the CF module from Amazon/Adorama, placing the CF into my D700 memory slot was the happiest moment with full of excitement and anticipation....... That did not last......

The visual experience was disappointing and nothing close to my regular CF module. Called Nikon and confirmed I have the latest firmware on my D700, reformatted it in my camera did not help with the performance! Transferring the pictures into my laptop (using a PCMCIA - CF card reader) was horror!!! Slow as a watching snail s race to nowhere.....

Called Kingston and they did not acknowledge they have any issues.... However, they did say they have a new revision for the CG module!
I guess I will pay for the shipping cost and give it a try....

Should have picked the Lexar of other high performance brand CF card,,,,,

Wow 32 gigs in this small CF card it s hard to believe. The counter on my camera (Mark 5 - 21 MP) stays at 999 for a long time when I shoot with this card, then mysteriously drops to the 800 s after a couple hundred shots. If you never want to think about your shots limit this will be the ticket for you. Your battery may run out before you fill this card. I had it for about a month or so and use it all the time. No problems thus far.
